Terms of Service
1. What Mahjie is
Mahjie is a SaaS platform where independent organizers run paid American Mahjong tournaments and events. Players use Mahjie to discover, register for, and pay for events run by these organizers. Mahjie is not the organizer of any event listed on the platform.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. By using Mahjie you confirm that the information you provide is accurate and that you are legally able to enter into this agreement.
3. Accounts
You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account. Tell us at support@mahjie.com if you suspect unauthorized access.
4. Payments & fees
Player payments are processed by Stripe. Mahjie charges a flat $1.79 platform service fee per ticket sold. The organizer receives the remainder, less Stripe's processing fee, in their connected Stripe account. Mahjie does not hold player funds.
5. Refunds & cancellations
Each organizer sets their own refund policy on the event page. If an organizer cancels an event, you are entitled to a refund of the ticket price. The Mahjie platform fee is non-refundable except where required by law or where Mahjie cancels the event itself.
6. SMS messaging
By registering for an event and checking the SMS consent box, you agree to receive transactional SMS from the organizer for that event (signup confirmation, reminders, schedule changes, waitlist updates, seating). Message frequency varies — typically 2-6 messages per event. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help.
Full SMS terms and consent details: SMS Terms & Consent. Privacy details, including how mobile numbers are handled: Privacy Policy.
7. Acceptable use
- Do not impersonate another person.
- Do not register for events you do not intend to attend in bad faith.
- Do not use the platform to harass, threaten, or defraud anyone.
- Do not attempt to disrupt the service or access data you are not authorized to see.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.
8. Organizer responsibilities
Organizers are responsible for delivering the event they advertise, for their own communications with their registered players, and for complying with all laws applicable to running paid events (taxes, permits, accessibility, anti-discrimination). Mahjie is a tool — organizers retain full legal responsibility for their events.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
Mahjie is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any specific event will take place as advertised.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Mahjie's total liability for any claim arising out of these terms or your use of the platform is limited to the platform fees you paid Mahjie in the 12 months preceding the claim. Mahjie is not liable for events cancelled, rescheduled, or modified by organizers.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced by email or in-app notice at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated terms.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in New York County, New York.
